Annapurna Bhandar Overview
The Annapurna Bhandar is a flagship social security initiative that upgrades the previous Lakshmir Bhandar project. It provides a substantial ₹3,000 monthly financial assistance to every eligible woman in West Bengal. The first installment is scheduled for June 1, 2026.
This scheme fulfills the promise of the Matri Shakti Bharosa Card introduced during the 2026 elections. By utilizing the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) system, the government ensures that every rupee reaches the beneficiary’s bank account directly without any middlemen.
Beyond the cash transfer, the 2026 vision includes integrating Annapurna Bhandar with central initiatives like Ayushman Bharat (₹5 Lakh health cover) to provide total economic and health security for the women of Bengal.
